The short version
- We only collect your name and email when you sign up for something, like a workshop or replay.
- The Northstar calculator runs entirely in your browser. We never see or store the numbers you enter.
- We use your email to send what you asked for and occasional updates from Heyward CPA. You can unsubscribe anytime.
- We don’t sell your information.
Who we are
byobookkeeper.net is operated by Heyward CPA PLLC, a CPA firm in Durham, North Carolina. BYOBookkeeper is one of our programs. In this policy, “we,” “us” and “our” mean Heyward CPA PLLC.
This policy covers this website only. If you become a client, the information you share with us for accounting, tax or bookkeeping work is handled under your engagement letter and the professional confidentiality rules that apply to CPAs.
Information we collect
Information you give us
When you sign up to watch a workshop replay, join a workshop waitlist or register for a workshop, we collect your first name and email address. We also record which page you signed up from, so we know what you asked for.
Information that stays on your device
- Northstar calculator. The expenses, savings goals, tax rate and margin you enter are calculated in your browser. They are not sent to us or anyone else, and they’re gone when you leave the page.
- Replay access. After you sign up for the replay, your browser remembers that you’ve done so (using local storage), so you can return without signing up again. This stays on your device, and you can clear it in your browser settings at any time.
Information collected automatically
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are visited, how people arrive and whether they use the calculator. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your device, browser, approximate location and the pages you view. We don’t send Google your name, email or anything you enter into the calculator.
Like most websites, our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security and to keep the site running.
How we use your information
- To give you what you signed up for, such as access to a replay or workshop details and reminders.
- To send you emails from Heyward CPA about BYOBookkeeper, upcoming workshops and related services. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it.
- To keep the site secure and working properly.
We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information.
Services we use
We rely on a few trusted providers to run this site. Each handles information under its own privacy policy:
- AWeber stores our email list and sends our emails.
- Google Analytics measures site usage.
- Google Fonts provides the typefaces on this site. Your browser loads them from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address.
- Gumlet hosts and plays our workshop video.
- Hostinger hosts this website.
- TidyCal handles consultation booking. When you click a “Schedule a free consultation” button, you leave this site and TidyCal collects the details you enter there.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
Cookies and your choices
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work.
- To opt out of Google Analytics on all websites, you can install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link at the bottom of any email.
Your requests
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@heywardcpa.com or call 919-886-4829, and we’ll respond within a reasonable time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your state’s law, and we’ll honor those that apply.
How long we keep information
We keep your name and email for as long as you’re on our email list. If you unsubscribe, we keep a record of that so we don’t email you again. Analytics data is kept according to our Google Analytics retention settings.
Security
This site uses HTTPS, and we use reputable providers to store and send email. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Children
This site is meant for business owners and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted here.
